The Pickle + Preserve line was designed to fit into the Chef'n brand family, while having a distinct identity. I achieved this through colors, font, layout, and iconography. It has bright, clean branding to modernize the classic preparation of pickled food. Additionally, I wanted these products to stand out amongst other pickling items.
When choosing a typeface, I used a sans serif so it still fit the basic Chef'n identity systems I had developed. Aktiv Grotesk elevates the other design elements so the bold colors, kraft packaging, and simple icons look clean and modern.
The icons use a limited color palette and simple design. The Chef'n design system indicates that packaging should show products in use on packaging. Because of the kraft paper, limited space, and stark design, I created icons that show pieces of the product and how the product is used. Each icon uses black, white, and the primary color of the product, which corresponds to the produce used in the product.
The colors for this line were pulled directly out of the Chef'n brand colors. They were picked to match the produce that the products would be used to prep. I chose more primary colors so they would stand out on the kraft packaging, and as a family, pair nicely with stark black and white ink.
The Pickle + Preserve branding uses clean, modern design, and as a callback to the DIY food prep method, I chose kraft paper to ground the overall feel of the packaging. The dielines were designed so the products can be hung on a peg, as well as sit on a shelf and have a minimal footprint in either instance.

The Pickle + Preserve line is shown at trade shows on a small cart. I wanted the graphics to show the range of produce the products could be used with, as well as showcase the branding. Small elements include hand outs and instruction sheets.
